In modern society the development of cardiovascular atherosclerosis is one of the most threatening health problems. This disease, which is often referred to as a silent Killer that affects millions of people worldwide and causes for heart is one of the main attacks and strokes. What exactly is hidden behind this complicated term — and how you can protect yourself from this disease?
Atherosclerosis of vessels, a chronic disease of the blood, the fat and calcium deposits (called Plaques) on the inner walls of the arteries form. These deposits narrow the vessel diameter and to affect the flow of blood to the heart, to the brain and other important organs. In the worst case, a Plaque can rupture a blood clot, clogging the artery completely and lead to an acute heart attack or stroke can be formed quickly.
Who belongs to the risk group?
Among the main risk factors for the development of atherosclerosis:
Smoking;
high blood pressure level (hypertension);
increased levels of cholesterol (especially LDL cholesterol);
Diabetes mellitus;
Obesity and lack of physical activity;
family history;
Age (the risk increases with age).
Symptoms: when should you go to the doctor?
For a long time, the atherosclerosis is completely asymptomatic. The first signs often show up only when the narrowing of the vessels is considerable. Possible symptoms are:
Chest pain (Angina pectoris) during physical exertion;
Shortness of breath;
Fatigue and power loss;
Pain or numbness in the legs when (peripheral arterial disease);
Changes in vision or speech disorders as a reference to a possible vasoconstriction in the brain.
Prevention and treatment: What can you do?
The good news is that Many of the risk factors in a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce. The most important measures for prevention are:
Diet: waiver of TRANS-fat-rich foods, reduced consumption of sugar, more fiber, fruits, vegetables and fish in your daily diet.
Regular physical activity: at Least 150 minutes of moderate load per week (e.g., Walking, Cycling, Swimming).
Quitting Smoking: stopping Smoking reduces the risk for cardiovascular disease after a short time significantly.
Blood pressure and cholesterol control: Periodic medical examinations and, if necessary, drug therapy, after consultation with the doctor.
Stress management: Adequate sleep, relaxation techniques, and social contacts contribute to heart health.
If the disease has already been diagnosed, the treatment in addition to drugs (e.g., cholesterol‑lowering, blood pressure-lowering drug), or in severe cases, even surgical interventions (balloon angioplasty, Bypass surgery).
Conclusion
The cardiovascular atherosclerosis is a serious illness but no death assessment. Through a deliberate lifestyle, and regular checkups of the individual risk can be reduced significantly. You inform yourself, take care of your health, and talk openly with your doctor — because prevention starts today.

## Cardiovascular Disease Inheritance ##
Heart disease: How strong is the inheritance plays a role?
Cardiovascular disease causes are one of the leading death in the world. Every year millions of people die as a result of heart attacks, strokes, or other cardiovascular diseases. A Central question is, the scientists and stakeholders alike employed is: How big is the influence of heredity on the risk to develop such a disease?
It is known that genetic factors in cardiovascular diseases play a significant role. Studies show that people whose close relatives have suffered from cardiovascular disease, have an increased risk to be affected. So, for example, familial hypercholesterolemia — a genetically can increase a conditional increase in the cholesterol levels and the risk for heart attacks significantly.
But what, exactly, inheritance means in this context? It is not a single Gene that causes the disease directly, but rather to a combination of genetic variants that affect together with environmental factors, the individual risk. Scientists speak of a polygenic inheritance: Many genes each with a small contribution to the overall risk.
In addition to the genetic factors, lifestyle and environmental factors, however, play a crucial role. Even if a family history is present, can reduce a healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity, a balanced diet, not Smoking and moderate alcohol consumption, the risk significantly. Conversely, an unhealthy lifestyle can itself increase with favorable predisposition, the risk greatly.
A further aspect is the early detection is. People with a family history of heart disease should regularly undergo medical examinations. This includes, in particular:
Blood pressure measurements;
Review of the blood fat (lipid spectrum);
Blood sugar test.
where appropriate, ECG and ultrasound examinations of the heart.
Such a prevention strategy allows us to identify risk factors at an early stage and to selectively influence — often before symptoms occur.
In summary: The inheritance of cardiovascular disease is not an inevitable fate, but a risk factor among many. While we can't change our genes, we are, however, powerful tools available to control our individual health risk. Awareness, prevention and early medical care are the keys to keep the negative effects of an unfavorable predisposition as low as possible.

## Prevention of the development of cardiovascular diseases ##
Prevention of the development of cardiovascular diseases
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to the world health organization (WHO), every year approximately 17.9 million deaths, equivalent to approximately 32% of all global deaths. The prevention of these diseases is, therefore, a crucial public health task.
Risk factors
The main risk factors for the development of CVD in modifiable and non-modifiable sub-parts:
Non-modifiable factors: age, gender, and genetic predisposition. The risk increases significantly after the age of 50. Age; men are affected up to the Menopause in women.
Modifiable factors: Arterial hypertension, hyperlipidemia, type 2 Diabetes mellitus, Overweight/obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption.
Preventive Measures
Effective prevention relies on modification of the controllable risk factors:
A Healthy Diet. A diet according to the pattern of the Mediterranean diet (rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, low-fat dairy products, fish and olive oil) reduces the risk. This applies to the consumption of saturated fatty acids, sugar and salt (<To reduce to 5 g/day).
Regular physical activity. At least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic against the load (e.g., quick, Cycling, Swimming) per week, or 75 minutes of intense activity are recommended.
Waiver of tobacco. Smoking cigarettes increases the risk of heart attack and stroke by 2-4‑fold. The complete lack of results after just a few years to a significant reduction in risk.
The consumption of alcohol. The WHO recommends limiting your daily intake to a maximum of 20 g of pure alcohol for women and 30 g for men.
Weight control. A Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m
2
and a waist circumference of 88 cm (women) and 102 cm (men) are target values to minimize risk.
Blood pressure control. Target values are <140/90 mmHg in patients with Diabetes or kidney disease, even in the case of <130/80 mmHg.
Fat levels in the blood. LDL‑cholesterol should be below 3.0 mmol/l (in the case of high-risk patients below 1.8 mmol/l) and triglyceride levels below 1.7 mmol/l.
Blood sugar. Fasting blood sugar is below 6.1 mmol/l and HbA1c under 7% are desirable.
Community-Based Prevention Strategies
In addition to individual measures of social interventions play an important role:
Awareness-raising campaigns for a healthy way of life,
Subsidy programs for healthy food,
Creation of infrastructure for physical activity (bike paths, Parks),
legal regulations (tobacco advertising bans, salt reduction in finished products).
Conclusion
The prevention of cardiovascular diseases requires an integrated approach at the individual level, with a healthy life-styles and regular health checks, as well as on a societal level through structural measures will be strengthened. An early and consistent risk modification can seizures, the incidence of heart attacks, stroke and other CVD was significantly lower, and the quality of life, and the life expectancy of the population, significantly improve.
